Ecologically, man cannot ignore what feeds him socially, politically, economically and spiritually

Inspired by her early years growing up by the sea, Scottish-born sculptor and photographer Linda Lieberman shares her stunning Coral Crown Series, as part of an on-going Ocean Series. Looking to highlight the ever increasing destruction of the fragile Eco-system of the coral reefs, here Linda expresses concerns through a series of mixed media diptychs dedicated to Mauritius, illustrated by the iconic cyclones which are part of Mauritian way of life. Depicting the reef and the cyclones together represents how they are interlinked – the reef protects from cyclone damage, therefore degradation of the reef through over-fishing and coastal development has devastating effects on the land and the people. Directly affected by climate change, coral reefs around the world are under threat, especially the largest, the Great Barrier Reef, which is suffering from devastating bleaching. Linda’s Ocean Series beautifully gives prominence to mankind’s abuse of the Oceans and how this impacts the environment around us.

“The core of my work endeavours to create a poetic, and visual conversation between the sea, where life began, and the ever-evolving interaction between mankind, and the natural world. Described as ‘visceral’ and ‘intense’, the work is both immediate and demanding.”
