She would insist on eating her dessert before the entrée, before anything else. “I just don’t see a point in waiting”, she would reply when somebody asked her about this strange habit and would continue eating her maple ice cream dessert.
She enjoyed reading books from back to front because that came closest to her wish of travelling back in time. Travelling back to that time when she still believed in Santa Claus and the Christ Child, when she was free from any worry and free like a bird.
Sometimes she would dream of winter and snowy roads with tall trees growing on both sides and then the boy she was in love with came towards her and the snow melted and the big, tall trees disappeared and when she then felt the warmth of the sun on her skin she knew that it was now that the spring had finally come out.
But sometimes she didn’t meet anybody while going down this road and then she would wake up after what felt like endless hours of walking feeling nothing but a deep, overwhelming sadness lying heavily on her heart and her body and her soul. Then she would get up, make herself a coffee and sit outside, no matter how cold it was, waiting for the dawn to break the new day.
