Women by Dorota Holubová

While the world is hit by the deadly virus and many people die every day, the governments impose strict rules for everyone to stay home around the world. The lockdown could be nothing but a safe place for all. But does the home remain the safest place for everyone? The increase of domestic abuse is shocking according to the latest reports from the charities helping the victims of domestic violence against women. In this feature, we would love to present some striking portraits of the women photographed by Dorota Holubová.

The series of portraits that Dorota Holubová has created, was the extension to her longer series called “The Atlas of Women”. In the Atlas of Women, Holubová has been documenting the lives of women living in a shelter for the victims of domestic violence against women. Throughout the project, she has witnessed some horrific stories. The 12 powerful portraits are all inspirational women that Holubová has carefully selected. Holubová’s sitters celebrate their confidence and ambition. The project has been made into an official calendar that anyone could buy and all proceeds go to selected charities supporting the organisations. Dorota Holubová is a portrait and documentary photographer based out of Slovakia.
